Highbeam

Privacy Policy

Last updated August 4, 2026

Highbeam collects nothing. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. The app has no network access at all, so there is nothing it could send even if it wanted to.

No network access

Highbeam is sandboxed by macOS and ships without the network entitlement. That is a technical restriction enforced by the operating system, not a promise: the app is not permitted to open a network connection. It contains no analytics library, no crash reporter, and no telemetry.

Settings stored on your device

Highbeam saves your preferences locally on your Mac using the operating system's standard settings storage. That is the whole list:

None of it identifies you, none of it leaves your Mac, and all of it is removed when you delete the app.

What the app reads while it runs

To do its job Highbeam asks macOS about your display's brightness capability, your power state (whether you are on battery, the battery level, and Low Power Mode), and your Mac's thermal state. These are read moment to moment so the app knows how bright it may go and when to stand down. They are used on your Mac, are never recorded, and are never transmitted.

Purchases

The one-time unlock is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Payment happens between you and Apple; we never see your payment details, your Apple Account, or your name. Highbeam only asks macOS whether this Mac is entitled to the unlock, and receives yes or no. See Apple's privacy policy for how Apple handles purchases.

What we do not do

Screenshots and screen recording

Highbeam brightens your display by drawing a transparent overlay on top of it. That overlay is deliberately excluded from screenshots, screen recordings, and screen sharing, so the app never appears in anything you capture. Highbeam does not read, capture, or record your screen, and it does not request screen recording permission.

Children

Highbeam is not directed to children under 13. Since it collects no information from anyone, it collects none from them either.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above.
