RSSBar does not collect your information. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your feeds and reading history stay on your devices - and in your own iCloud account only if you turn on sync. Nothing is sent to Rocky Ocean.
RSSBar stores the following locally on your Mac, iPhone or iPad:
None of it is sent to us. Deleting the app removes it.
If you turn on Sync my library, your subscriptions, folders, saved articles, read status and smart searches are stored in your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit, so your devices stay in step. That data is held by Apple under your Apple Account and Apple's privacy policy. Rocky Ocean cannot read it. Reading appearance and notification settings stay on each device. Turning sync off stops future syncing; it does not erase records already in your iCloud account, which you can remove through your iCloud settings.
To do its job RSSBar connects directly to the websites you subscribe to - never through a Rocky Ocean server. It:
Separately, RSSBar reads one small file from rockyocean.io a few times a day. The file tells the app which version is current, so it can ask you to update. The request contains no account, device identifier or reading data. Like any web request, the server sees your IP address; we do not use it to identify or track you.
Like any web request, these let the publisher's server see your IP address, and a website you open may use cookies under its own privacy policy. RSSBar's reader view removes scripts from article text, but the original website behaves as its publisher designed it. We do not control publishers or their subscription requirements.
Alerts are created on your device by the operating system's local notification service, and only if you turn them on. There is no push server. On iPhone and iPad, iOS decides when background refresh runs.
On the Mac, importing or exporting subscriptions (OPML) and importing reading history use the system file picker; RSSBar reads or writes only the file you choose. An exported file contains your feed names and addresses.
RSSBar has no in-app purchases today. If we add an optional upgrade, payment will be handled entirely by Apple through the App Store - we will never see your payment details - and we will update this policy first.
This policy covers the RSSBar apps. The rockyocean.io website uses PostHog analytics to understand visits to its pages. That is separate from the app, which contains no analytics.
RSSBar is not directed to children under 13. Since it collects no information from anyone, it collects none from them either.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above.
